Caparol

Optimizing UX by reducing navigation redundancy.

TL;DR

I audited the Caparol app for usability and developed a UX optimization concept, that served as the foundation for their app re-design.

Problem

Reaching the right things was taking too long

Caparol salespeople had a hard time finding specific product details when on-site with clients.

Unhappy clients
No clarity
Opportunity

Enable users to find what they are looking for

Rethinking the user interaction patterns led to a clean, easy usability experience.

How can we help users orient themselves easily and quickly in an extensive product catalog?

Research Insights

User Insight and counting clicks

Measuring interaction path length and visualizing the information architecture, combined with user insights defined UX direction.

UX Audit
User Insights
01
Interaction paths needed to be optimized
Users needed to be able to find features quickly and consistently.
02
Filter options are not optional
Offering ways to sort through, organize and filter large amounts of data is a key usability need.
03
The bottleneck was orientation
Users we lacking clear paths and agency to customize content, leading to abandonment of the app.
Key Insights

From status quo to the happy path

The original UX paths were long and confusing, the ideal path would see a complete overhaul of the information architecture.

Learnings

What I'd carry into the next Project

The biggest impact came from adding a single fundamental usability feature, not from making the UI more pretty.

01
Small changes can have massive imact
Simply reforming the product filtering to add user agency elevated the experience.
02
UX basics are not optional
Modifying the interaction logic to follow UX best principles proved successful.
03
Designing for users means giving agency
Putting the way the filtering worked into the hands of the users had the biggest impact on usability.

User Centered

Every product decision is made to inform, support and enable users. This is what ultimately generates revenue.

Structured

I make sure that interactions feel natural and visual hierarchy is clear. I test my ideas and base decisions in data.

Accessible

The products I create are designed with accessibility in mind. This also means my solutions are robust and scalable.
